Want to arrange something special for your partner? We have compiled a list of 10 fun, thoughtful and creative things to do in Bristol. If you’re considering a romantic city break, Bristol may not be the first place that springs to mind. However, the city has plenty of perfect date spots to offer. If you’re heading to Bristol as a couple, be sure that the following is on your to-do list.
Looking for a romantic view? No matter how hard you try, you won’t find a better view of the city than the one from the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This is the go-to spot to take a deep breath and admire the gorgeous surrounding scenery from up high and enjoy each other’s company. Whether you choose to go in the day and enjoy an ice cream as you enjoy a walk, or at night, when the bridge is beautifully lit up, romance is guaranteed at this spot. Psst, you’ll find the perfect bench right by Clifton Observatory.
Heading to an art gallery or museum has been the go-to date plan since… forever! So, luckily, Bristol has some of the best art spaces in the country. You and your significant other can spend your day hopping from gallery to gallery, discussing the brilliant work on display. Romantic, right?
One of our favourite things to do is to follow the Banksy Bristol Trail. You can also download the fantastic Banksy Bristol Trail smartphone app (iPhone and Android versions available). You do not have to walk far in Bristol to discover cutting-edge pieces of graffiti art decorating the walls. Along narrow alleys, down side-streets, across building walls and boldly displayed on bridges.
What could be more romantic than stargazing? Bristol’s 3D Planetarium takes this to the next level. Found at We The Curious science museum you can enjoy one of the guided tours of the stars. You’ll hear different stories of ancient stargazers, fly you to faraway galaxies and show you views from distant and newly discovered planets… It’s out of this world!
What's that? A restaurant with live music in Bristol? That's right! Thursday nights are dedicated to Jazz at Future Inn Bristol, with live music gigs from local and internationally known jazz artists, duos, ensembles and groups. We love it so much, we even have a Dinner & Jazz Experience.
Do you guys like a good giggle? If so, we suggest you check out Smoke and Mirrors Comedy and Magic Bar. The intimate 46-seater secret theatre is found behind a velvet curtain. With the feel of a speakeasy, you will be entertained with close up magic, stand up comedy, burlesque and live music.
Experience nature & take your partner out on a wild day out to the Bristol Zoo Gardens. There is much to be learnt and seen. Home to over 80 species, including a baby gorilla that was born in the zoo in 2016, you will have a fabulous time wandering through the grounds and being amazed by the animals. There’s sure to be plenty of conversation starters here if you’re stuck for first-date chat. We highly recommend a walk through the butterfly tunnel.
Wear comfy shoes and take a relaxing country walk straight from the city into Leigh Woods (this is located close to the Suspension Bridge). Brave the climb up high enough through the woods and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the bridge and the city in the background. Check out some of our other favourite walks here.
The harbourside is a great place to come with your partner as you can take a relaxing walk, grab a drink in one of the pubs and watch the sunset together. There are multiple benches along the riverside, as well as ample room for sitting on the waters edge with your legs dangling over. The view of the beautiful coloured buildings in Clifton across the river feels Mediterranean-esque and sure to set a romantic mood.
Bristol is home to the famous Hippodrome Theatre, showcasing the best theatrical performances from around the world. The Old Vic is the UK’s longest continuously running theatre and currently celebrating 250 years of success. The Tobacco Factory offers unique shows and has an excellent market. Whatever your date’s taste in live entertainment, Bristol is sure to deliver. Book a couple of tickets in advance, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
Head to the top of Cabot Circus, where Future Inn Bristol is based, for some goofy golfing with your date at Jungle Rumble. There are two 18-hole golf courses to choose from. The Jungle Course is a winding trail around rocky outcrops and deep forest which leads brave explorers through an active volcano, complete with lighting and sound effects. Or, the Secret Swamp course takes you on a trudge across the marsh to visit the tribal village hidden within.
Also at Cabot Circus, you could try Escape Hunt Bristol. You will be "locked” in a room with a series of tests, puzzles and clues that, combined with teamwork, will allow the unlocking of the room's mystery and hopefully a successful escape. This is the perfect way to have a bit of fun and unwind.
Future Inn Bristol is an ideal base for the night offering various bedroom types. Up the romance factor by booking a Superior King Room, the large bedroom comes with a King-sized bed and soft seating area, as well as all the perks you can expect from a stay at Future Inns including free car parking, free wifi and a complimentary robe and slippers.
