When you think of summer, your thoughts immediately go to shorts, flip-flops, sun cream and holidays. For us, it's the influx of fresh, bright seasonal ingredients. Such as asparagus, broad beans, cauliflower, garlic and peppers. These are used throughout the new summer menu in Cardiff. There are many fresh vegetables and flavours on the menu to make you feel like you're abroad, instead of on staycation. All of our dishes are created on-site using local, fresh ingredients. You are guaranteed a Taste of Wales at Thomas Restaurant. All of the traditional British and contemporary Welsh cuisine is made on-site using fresh local produce. There is a wide selection of meat, fish, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes to choose from. Plus, under 5's eat for free with a paying adult. Whether you visit with friends, family or colleagues, you'll be welcome! Did we mention that we have a 5-star food hygiene rating too?
If you fancy a light bite at lunchtime, how about a Welsh rarebit and pear compote (v)? Or a grilled tuna steak niçoise salad with new potatoes, green beans, baby gem, cherry tomatoes and olives? Of course, there's a range of sandwiches, paninis, or even nachos.
Heartier dishes are also on the menu, including summer tagliatelle pasta with olives, sun-blushed tomatoes, basil and parmesan (v). You can even add on prawns. Or a buttermilk fried chicken burger in a ciabatta bun, with guacamole, lettuce, bacon rashers, cheese, gherkins and French fries.
After a more relaxed daytime menu, things move up a notch in the evenings. Some notable new dishes on the main menu include the lamb rump with tomato, broad bean and cannellini beans, pea puree and purple broccoli (gf). Or the chickpea butternut squash and kale stew served with homemade sourdough bread (vg).
This is alongside our grill menu, including Ribeye and Rump. All steaks are served with grilled tomato, roast red onion, French fries and a choice of sauce. These include peppercorn, stilton, mushroom or red wine or a sundried tomato or garlic and herb butter.
Some favourites remain on the menu with a revamp. Including our Welsh Cawl, a lamb stew with Caerfai cheddar cheese and crusty bread (gf on request), the roast chicken breast with herby mash potato, roast honey vegetables and a red wine sauce, and the Celtic Pride steak burger in a sourdough bun served with bacon, pickle, smoked mayonnaise, cheese and French fries.
Are you staying in our Cardiff hotel? You're more than welcome to dine in your bedroom. Some dishes are available 24 hours a day, including sandwiches and pizza. Popular items on the menu include the Punjabi potato and mushroom curry served with roast cauliflower and cashew nuts (vg) (gf). As well as the catch of the day with homemade tartare sauce, thick-cut chips, choice of peas and lemon.
If you're hungry, load your room service tray with starters, sides and dessert. Our favourites are the rhubarb and vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb sorbet (v) (gf), the sticky toffee pudding with custard, cream or ice cream (v). If you can't decide, try the trio of mini desserts, which includes chocolate peanut butter bar, tahini fudge and lemon coconut drizzle (vg).
Our favourite special offer is available seven days a week from 5pm. You can enjoy two courses for £19 or 3 courses for £23. The table d'hote menu has some popular selections from the Thomas Restaurant menu and fantastic fresh specials.
You'll be spoilt for choice on our drinks menu, which offers well-known brands and popular local producers. Our Welsh drink selection includes Brains beers, Penderyn whiskey and vodka, Benjamin Hall gins, and Cariad wines. Thomas Bar & Restaurant also has an extensive gin and mixer menu, and the cocktails cost £7 each. Of course, there is a wide range of soft drinks, teas and coffees too.
Want a truly unforgettable dining experience? Begin with a cocktail to start your evening off before sitting down to three courses off the table d'hôte dinner menu. You can then stick to the same cocktail or pick two entirely different ones from the cocktail menu. Available 7 days a week from 5pm, all for £44 per person. This is also available to purchase as a gift voucher.

You can find Thomas Restaurant on Hemingway Road in Cardiff Bay, opposite Cardiff County Hall and the Red Dragon Centre. If you dine in Thomas Restaurant, you get free parking. There is also free electric car charging on site, which you can use. Please enter your car details into the console on arrival to avoid being sent a penalty notice.
