When you think of summer, your thoughts immediately go to shorts, flip-flops, sun cream and holidays. For us, it's the influx of fresh, bright seasonal ingredients to use throughout the new summer menu in Cardiff. Many fresh flavours are on the menu to make you feel like you're abroad instead of on a staycation. All of the dishes in Thomas Restaurant are created on-site using local, fresh ingredients. Thomas Restaurant has a wide selection of meat, fish, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes. Plus, under 5's eat for free with a paying adult. You'll be welcome whether you visit with friends, family or colleagues! Did we mention that we have a 5-star food hygiene rating too?
If you fancy a light bite at lunchtime, how about a bread basket with garlic and rosemary butter and a balsamic olive oil dip? It is ideal with an ice-cold glass of wine or one of our cocktails. Or a pear and walnut salad with perl las cheese, rocket, red onion, dried cranberries and a honey mustard dressing. Of course, there's a range of sandwiches, paninis, or even nachos.
Heartier dishes are also on the menu, including spaghetti alla puttanesca with garlic, olive oil, black olives, capers, basil and parmesan. Or a hunter's chicken burger in a brioche bun, baby gem lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, smoked streaky bacon, Monterey jack cheese, BBQ sauce and skin-on fries.
After a more relaxed daytime menu, things move up a notch in the evenings. Some notable new dishes on the main menu include a grilled chicken in a creamy mushroom and tarragon sauce, peas, asparagus, truffle oil and mashed potato. Or a rack of ribs with corn on the cob, horseradish slaw, BBQ sauce and skin-on fries. This is alongside our steaks served with herb-roasted tomatoes, dressed leaves, skin-on fries, and a choice of sauce. These include peppercorn, garlic butter or a red wine jus.
Some favourites remain on the menu, including our beer-battered fish and chips with tartar sauce and crushed buttered peas, the steak burger in a brioche bun, baby gem lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, smoked streaky bacon, Monterey jack cheese and chilli jam. There's even a vegan version.
Are you staying in our Cardiff hotel? You're more than welcome to dine in your bedroom. Some dishes are available 24 hours a day, including sandwiches and pizza. If you're hungry, load your room service tray with starters, sides and dessert. Our favourites are the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream and the peach melba crepe with a raspberry coulis.
Our favourite special offer is available seven days a week from 5pm. You can enjoy two courses for £19 or 3 courses for £25. The table d'hote menu has popular selections from the Thomas Restaurant menu and fantastic fresh specials.
We like to do it differently from the rest, so we guarantee a Taste of Wales with our afternoon tea selection. The chefs have recreated the traditional afternoon tea menu of delicious finger sandwiches, mouth-watering homemade cakes and handmade scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam.
The afternoon tea is served with unlimited servings of tea or coffee, but we highly recommend continuing the theme with Welsh Brew Loose Leaf Tea. All for £19 per person. You can also add a glass of bubbles, prosecco, or a cocktail. There's even a bottomless afternoon tea for £29 per person.
Join us for one of our generous seasonal roast options, served every week. With a selection of meats and a vegetarian and vegan option. You can expect golden crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding and lashings of real gravy, alongside a selection of starters and desserts. Gluten-free options are also available. Served every Sunday from 12pm to 5pm from £13 per person.
You'll be spoilt for choice on our drinks menu, which offers well-known brands and popular local producers. Our Welsh drink selection includes Brains beers, Penderyn whiskey and vodka, Benjamin Hall gins, and Cariad wines. Thomas Bar and Restaurant also has an extensive gin and mixer menu, and the cocktails cost £9 each. Cocktails are even 2-4-1 Monday to Friday between 4pm-7pm. Of course, there is a wide range of soft drinks, mocktails, teas and coffees too.
Want a truly unforgettable dining experience? Begin with a cocktail to start your evening off before sitting down to three courses off the table d'hôte dinner menu. You can then stick to the same cocktail or pick two entirely different ones from the cocktail menu. Available 7 days a week from 5pm, all for £50 per person. This is also available to purchase as a gift voucher.

You can find Thomas Restaurant on Hemingway Road in Cardiff Bay, opposite Cardiff County Hall and the Red Dragon Centre. If you dine in Thomas Restaurant, you get free parking. There is also free electric car charging on-site, which you can use. Upon arrival, please enter your car details into the console to avoid being sent a penalty notice.
