As May is National Bike Month, we thought it would be an excellent time to make you aware of our cycle-friendly facilities. The wind in your hair, the city whizzing past, that wonderful gliding feeling…nothing could ever quite beat riding a bike.

We are lucky to have some of the best cycling routes in Cardiff, especially with the Taff Trail on our doorstep. Future Inn Cardiff Bay boasts the perfect location as a base for your next cycle break. With easy access to many local routes, with a variety of cycling trails in Cardiff suitable for families and the more keen cyclist.

Cycling in Cardiff Bay

Cycling around Cardiff City Centre and in Cardiff Bay is easy to do. The Cardiff Bay trail is a circular route for cyclists and walkers is 10km (6.2 miles) long. It runs around the Bay and across to the seaside town of Penarth via Pont Y Werin, a 140m bridge providing a link for pedestrians and cyclists between Penarth and the International Sports Village. You can also take in the landmarks including the Norwegian Church, the Wales Millennium Centre and The Senedd.

Cycling Events in Cardiff

You can also follow the route of the annual Velothon. The 125km or 140km closed road race sees cyclists leave Cardiff to the east, heading through Newport and Usk before turning south towards Pontypool and Newbridge on the way to Caerphilly for the only significant climb up the stunning Caerphilly Mountain. The course ends with a fast descent towards the finish line in Cardiff city-centre and a grandstand finish along the iconic King Edward VII Avenue.

Cycling Around Plymouth

With exhilarating mountain bike trails, dramatic views from the open roads of Dartmoor and traffic-free cycle paths all on its doostep, Plymouth is a great place to explore on two wheels.

As well as cycling along Plymouth’s Barbican and Sutton Harbour, the city provides a great base for those wanting to explore the stunning scenery and local history on offer. With numerous National Trust estates, the Dartmoor National Park and coastal routes nearby, you will have plenty of exciting trails to choose from, you may even come across a Dartmoor pony or two.

Cycling Routes Around Plymouth

The National Cycle Network (NCN) is being developed by Sustrans in partnership with local authorities and other organisations. Two cycling routes run through Plymouth; NCN route 27 - Devon Coast to Coast route which is mostly off-road from Plymouth to Ilfracombe and includes the recently opened Laira Rail Bridge and NCN route 2 - Southern Coastal route, from Cornwall to Dover.
