Gingerbread Trail in Cardiff Bay
The Gingerbread Trail will get all family members in the festive spirit if you want free things to do in Cardiff this Christmas. There's plenty of time to visit Cardiff Bay; the trail runs between 1 December 2022 and 8 January 2023.
During this festive period, you can find nine 6-foot gingerbread characters in popular locations in Cardiff Bay. Can you find them all? Taking centre stage in Roald Dahl Plass will be a gingerbread sleigh.
On each character is a letter. As you discover them all, note the letter on the booklets available from Reception at Future Inns, at participating venues or online at visitcardiffbay.info. When you have found all nine, the letters will spell out a festive word. You can then enter the free prize draw, which includes an overnight stay with us at Future Inn Cardiff Bay, including breakfast, Everyman Cinema and Hollywood Bowl tickets, plus a meal at Hub Box.
Don't forget to share pictures and selfies of you on the trail, as there will also be spot prizes, including Odeon Cinema tickets, a boat tour on Princess Katherine, a meal at Volcano and many more. On Saturday 3 December 2022, Cardiff Bay will celebrate Gingerbread Day. Alongside the trail, fun family activities will run throughout the day.
If you love gingerbread, finish your day of exploring with a Festive Afternoon Tea in Thomas Restaurant. Sandwiches include roast turkey and cranberry, cheese and mulled wine chutney and smoked salmon and beetroot. Plain sandwiches can be organised for younger children if they would prefer.
The sweet treats include festive macarons, Christmas pudding brownies, mince pie pinwheels, plus Santa and snowman meringues. Of course, there are scones with clotted cream and jam too. Wash it all down with unlimited refills of tea or coffee. Children can have squash or hot chocolate instead.

Alternatively, you can do the Gingerbread trail on the last day of 2022. The family-friendly New Year's Eve party starts at 7pm on Saturday 31 December 2022. The event includes a 3-course hot buffet and our resident party DJ to keep everyone entertained throughout the evening. As we welcome 2023, there will be a glass of Prosecco for the adults to raise a glass with.
