Bike to the Future Inn

Written by Future Inn Cardiff Cycling Guest Blogger Simon Nurse, General Manager, Odoni-Elwell

There can be few cities as perfectly positioned for cycling. The city is well connected with major arterial roads that flow East to the big urban conurbations of Bristol and London, West to Swansea, the Gower peninsula and the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline and North to the adventure playground of the Brecon Beacons and beyond. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s concentrate on the Welsh capital.

Cardiff is relatively flat, boasts its own outdoor velodrome – the launchpad for the careers of Nicole Cooke, Geraint Thomas, Luke Rowe and Owain Doull – is well appointed with a plethora of bike shops and has surely the jewel in the cycle path crown; the Taff trail. Cardiff is also within touching distance of world-class mountain bike centres, the rolling country lanes of ancient Glamorgan and the family-friendly expanse of Cardiff Bay.

Here at Future Inns Cardiff, we recognise just how lucky we are to have all this stuff right on our doorstep; and we’re keen to share the experience. Cardiff makes the perfect city break for racers, tourers, sportive riders, thrill-seekers and especially families (whose fun starts the minute your bike wheels roll out of our car park). Of course, if you are a cyclist and you do have a bike or two to consider, then you’re most likely to want to know that you’re well catered for.

We actively encourage active types, and to that end, we can offer a welcome and facilities that are difficult to beat. With our signature cycle stand outside our restaurant and outdoor cafe, ‘bikes in rooms’ policy, partnership with famous local bike shop ‘Cycleopaedia’ and connections to the local roads, trails and trail centres, we cater for cyclists in every way.

A cycling staycation in Cardiff

As a cycle-friendly hotel, you are more than welcome to bring your bike with you when staying with us. All of our spacious bedrooms can sleep up to four guests, and we allow you to keep your bike in the room overnight. We'll even put cycling matts in your room. If you are in and out, there is also a secure cycle rack for safe storage of cycles outside. The biggest plus we offer is a guest laundry room on the first floor with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Don't have your own bike? Nextbike operates throughout the city. The closest nextbike station to Future Inn Cardiff is at County Hall across the road from the hotel. There is also a station outside Cardiff Bay train station, a 5-minute walk from the hotel or the Wales Millennium Centre a 9-minute walk from the hotel.

Sustrans maps of the Taff Trail are available in Reception.
