Community Shield Cardiff

The Community Shield moved to Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday 16 August 2026

The 2026 FA Community Shield will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday 16 August 2026, marking its return to the Welsh capital for the first time in 20 years. The season-opening match was moved from Wembley due to scheduled concerts by The Weeknd.

The FA Community Shield is one of the most anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar, traditionally bringing together the previous season’s Premier League Champions and FA Cup Final winners. Organised by The Football Association, it marks the curtain-raiser for the new football season and offers fans a first glimpse of the teams competing for silverware.

While the fixture is usually held at Wembley Stadium, the Community Shield is occasionally moved to other iconic venues. One standout alternative is the Principality Stadium, formerly known as the Millennium Stadium, which has hosted major matches during Wembley’s redevelopment and remains a world-class destination for top-tier sport.

Hosting the match in Cardiff brings a unique atmosphere, blending Welsh hospitality with the excitement of English football. The stadium’s central location, retractable roof, and electric crowd make it an unforgettable setting for such a high-profile event. It’s not just a match - it’s an experience that draws fans from across the UK.

As the first major fixture of the football calendar, the Community Shield sets the tone for the months ahead. It’s a chance to see how teams are shaping up, spot new signings in action, and enjoy the buzz of live sport returning. Kick-off times are typically scheduled to maximise fan attendance and TV audiences, making it a highlight of the sporting summer.

Whether you’re a lifelong supporter or simply love the energy of live football, seeing the Community Shield in Cardiff offers a memorable way to start the season.

Community Shield 2026 Date and Time

The 2026 Community Shield in Cardiff will take place on Sunday, 16 August 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.

Community Shield 2026 Tickets

To get Community Shield tickets for the 2026 Community Shield, the best option is usually through the official club allocations, as the two qualifying teams (Premier League and FA Cup winners) receive a set number of tickets for their supporters. These are often offered first to season ticket holders, club members, or priority groups through a ballot or early access, giving fans the best chance to secure tickets at face value.

Any remaining tickets may be released by The Football Association in a general sale, so keeping an eye on the official FA website and signing up for newsletters is recommended. If tickets sell out, you can also explore trusted resale platforms, which offer verified tickets with secure purchase guarantees, though prices may vary.

Additionally, hospitality or VIP packages are available, providing premium seating, food, and extra perks, often even when general tickets are sold out. Acting early is key, as demand for this fixture is always high.

Community Shield 2026 Teams

Bookmakers currently have Arsenal as strong favourites to top the Premier League this season and become champions, with significantly shorter odds than most rivals. Other traditional title contenders like Manchester City and Liverpool are also in the mix, given their recent history in the league and European competitions, as well as their strong squads.

For the FA Cup, the knockout nature of the competition means upsets are always possible, but clubs from the top flight, such as these (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leeds United, West Ham, Aston Villa and similar), are typically in contention in the later rounds. Favourites like Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are already out of the running.
