Visitor Levy Guidance

If you're planning to stay at Future Inn Cardiff, you may notice an additional charge on your reservation called the Overnight Visitor Levy.

The Cardiff Tourist Levy is a mandatory charge introduced by Cardiff Council for eligible hotel stays within the city. The money collected is managed through the Welsh Revenue Authority and is intended to support tourism and visitor services across the area.

To make things simple, we've answered the most common questions:

When does the levy apply?

The levy applies to:

  • New reservations made from 28 September 2026

  • Overnight stays taking place from 1 April 2027 onwards

If your reservation was made before 28 September 2026, the levy will not apply, even if you travel after this date.

How much is the levy?

The charge is £1.56 per person, per night, including VAT.

The total amount is calculated using the number of guests and the number of nights:

Number of guests × Number of nights × £1.56

For example:

  • 2 adults staying 2 nights = £6.24
  • 2 adults and 2 children staying 3 nights = £18.72

Who has to pay?

The levy applies to all guests staying at the hotel, regardless of age.

There are no child exemptions.

There are a small number of exemptions or refund arrangements for exceptional circumstances, such as emergency accommodation, stays of more than 31 nights (in a single stay), and eligible carers accompanying disabled visitors. If you believe this may apply to you, please refer to the Welsh Revenue Authority guidance.

Is the levy included in my room rate?

No. The levy is shown as a separate charge and is added to eligible reservations after the booking has been made.

Why is the hotel collecting the charge?

Hotels and other visitor accommodation providers are legally required to collect the levy on behalf of Cardiff Council.

Future Inn Cardiff does not keep this money.

If you have any questions about your reservation, our team will be happy to help.
