Plymouth William Yard | Historic Royal William Yard What To Do
Royal William Yard blends Plymouth’s historic naval past with contemporary places to eat, shop and relax in. The much-loved destination has places to eat, shops, water sports and a packed calendar of events. Surrounded by water, Royal William Yard offers breathtaking views over Plymouth Sound and across to Cornwall.
Designed by Victorian architect Sir John Rennie and constructed between 1825 and 1831, Royal William Yard is steeped in history. Considered to be one of Britain's most important groups of historic military buildings. It is also the largest collection of Grade 1 listed military buildings in Europe.
The best way to reach Royal William Yard is to hop on and off the new Barbican, Royal William Yard and Mount Edgcumbe ferry service, which links the three iconic destinations on the water. The timetable is seasonal and runs daily from April to October and at weekends only between November and early December.
If you want to be out on the water, Royal William Yard is a must-visit. Swim in the tidal pool, charter a sailing boat or try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding (SUP).
On the first Sunday of every month is the RWY Good Food & Craft Market from 10am until 3pm. You can purchase the freshest local produce and unique arts and crafts from the South West’s top suppliers and artisan makers. Other regular events include outdoor theatre productions and an open-air cinema.
Indulge in some serious retail therapy and pampering. The independent boutiques offer designer fashion, jewellery and a host of accessories. Plus, locally sourced gifts and homeware.
