The post-funeral gathering provides an important opportunity to celebrate life and bring much-needed comfort and support. We offer a sensitive, sympathetic and professional approach to organising a celebration of life reception.
Once you have said goodbye to your loved one; at the service, funeral home, funeral directors, burial or cremation, it’s time to have a funeral wake. Friends and family can gather for bereavement support at our venue in Plymouth, Devon.

Hot and Cold Buffets
Each of the event spaces offers a range of refreshment and catering opportunities, including healthy options. From teas, coffees, and pastries to lunch menus, including finger buffets or three-course dinners, our talented chefs make most of our food on-site using some of the finest local produce and ingredients.
Children are more than welcome to join you. An under 12's children's menu is available, and under 5's eat for free.

Tea and Coffee Station
An option to have a tea and coffee station is also available. Guests will be able to help themselves to freshly brewed coffee as well as a selection of teas. Plus, milk, sugar and sweeteners.
Bar Facilities
Depending on your numbers, a private bar is also an option for the wake, fully manned by our staff.
The team can also offer drinks packages, including champagne, prosecco, wine or buckets with bottled beers, lager, cider etc, as well as soft drinks, all of which can be on the tables for when your guests arrive.
Stay the Night
Future Inn Plymouth is a modern and comfortable hotel conveniently located near main access roads and public transportation. It offers easy access to the city centre and the surrounding Devon countryside. Alongside its excellent location, the hotel boasts spacious and airy bedrooms - all of which sleep up to four guests - that feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, a desk and workspace, a laptop safe, a complimentary robe, tea and coffee-making facilities and filtered water. Plus, home-away-from-home services like the guest laundry room, ice buckets, and wine glasses. There's also a small exercise room and free parking.

Children
Children are more than welcome to join your event. A children's menu is available for those under 12's and under 5's eat for free.
Free Parking
Free car parking is available for all event attendees. Just 4 miles from Plymouth City Centre, Future Inn Plymouth has easy access from the M5, A38, A386 and A374. The event centre is just 15 minutes from Plymouth Train Station, and buses stop on the opposite side of the road and outside the hotel. Future Inns is also a cycle-friendly hotel with an external bike rack, plus easy access to many local routes. Making our venues suitably accessible for your guests travelling to the event.
Accessibility
The function suites are entirely accessible and found on the ground floor, so no ramps or alternative routes are needed. All public areas and event spaces in the hotel are accessible for wheelchair users, with large doors and wide corridors. As well as fully accessible toilets. Free parking and blue badge parking can be found directly in front of the hotel and Fishbone Restaurant. The open-plan restaurant is also on the ground floor. Can we play music during the reception?
Yes, you are welcome to play background music that was meaningful to your loved one. We can help connect your phone or device to the room’s speaker system, or suggest a live musician or playlist if preferred.
Do you offer religious or non-religious options?
Our spaces are suitable for all beliefs and preferences. We work with you to ensure the tone and style of the event reflect your wishes.
Can we hold a short memorial or tribute during the wake?
Absolutely. Many families choose to include readings, poems, or a moment of reflection. Our team can assist you in arranging seating or a microphone if needed.
Do you require a deposit or booking in advance?
Yes, to secure the space, we usually require a small deposit. The date for the full balance will be given to you. Our team will talk you through the process with care and flexibility.
How long can we have the room for?
We offer flexible booking times to suit your needs - whether you'd like a brief gathering or a longer event. Most funeral receptions last between 2–4 hours, but we’re happy to accommodate your wishes where possible.
Do you have accessible facilities?
Yes, our venue is fully accessible, with step-free access, wide doorways, accessible toilets, and parking bays. If you have specific mobility concerns, we’ll do everything we can to assist.
Can children attend the wake?
Yes, children are welcome at Future Inn Plymouth. We offer a children’s menu for under 12s, and children under 5 eat free. We can also provide highchairs and quieter spaces if needed.
Do you work with local funeral directors or celebrants?
While most families arrange their own services, we’re happy to recommend local partners - such as venue decor, florists and entertainment - if you need guidance.
Can we make the event eco-friendly or sustainable?
We aim to be environmentally conscious and can work with you to reduce single-use plastics, offer local produce, and advise on lower-impact options if that’s important to you.
