Dine in our Vegan friendly restaurants in Bristol, Cardiff & Plymouth

Over the last few years, the teams in our restaurants have seen the increase of diners wanting a vegan menu. Across Britain, people are spending more on vegan products in the supermarkets and plant-based diets are trending online.

Some of the top most searched questions online ask what veganism is and the argument for and against cutting out animal products. Becoming a vegan is one of the fastest-growing lifestyle movements in the country.

What is Veganuary?

Veganuary is where you try the vegan diet, going meat and dairy-free, for the month of January.  There are so many reasons why people decide to try a vegan diet, and many start this in January as part of their New Year’s Resolution as a healthy kickstart to the year.

Why do Veganuary?

Some people want to feel better about themselves, some want to make an impact on the environment and for some, it is for their love of animals.

What are the benefits of Veganuary?

Research shows that health is the second biggest reason why people choose to go vegan.  You cut out cholesterol, lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease.  A well-planned vegan diet can support a healthy lifestyle and meet your nutritional needs, as well as introducing you to new ingredients.  It is also an effective way of helping our planet.  Eating a plant-based diet can cut out our greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution and water usage and prevent deforestation.

Veganuary eating out

As well as the restaurants at Future Inns, there are many vegan-friendly restaurants in the UK.  For us the Veganuary menu is not just for January.  They are seasonal and change throughout the year, so we can offer the freshest, local ingredients.

Vegan myths

Our menu does sometimes feature almonds, avocados, broccoli, cherries, cucumber, lettuce, kiwi, butternut squash and melon.  According to the BBC comedy quiz show QI, these items can not exist without bees as they are difficult to cultivate naturally and the crops rely on the bees which could have to travel a long way.  However, The Vegan Society disagrees with them being branded as non-vegan but would welcome changes made to farming practices.

Wales may be known for meaty stews and cheesy Glamorgan sausages, but there are plenty of vegan choices across the city.  Thomas Restaurant is our vegan friendly restaurant in Cardiff.  The vegan menu starts with breakfast and there is a stand-alone vegan menu for lunch and evening a la carte dining.  The team even serve a vegan afternoon tea including sandwiches, scones and cakes.

Sample vegan menus

Our menus are seasonal and do change often so we can offer the best fresh and local ingredients.  The warming winter menu has included hearty risottos, vegetable and chickpea tagines, roasted butternut squash curry, open sandwiches with olive tapenade, roasted peppers or marinated aubergines, or a superfood salad packed with goodness including cauliflower cous cous, kale, avocado, carrot, butternut squash and topped with toasted sunflower seeds and lemon dressing.

Is our vegan menu always available?

Yes, it is.  However, we do ask that you let us know when you book your overnight stay, or meal in the restaurant.  All of our food is made on the premises, and we would hate not to have some of the ingredients here.  By letting us know, we can make sure our local suppliers deliver what we need, and we have time to make the dishes for you.  This includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, evening meals and any conferences, weddings or events held with us.

If you are taking part in Veganuary or have been vegan for some time, you will always be welcome to dine with us!
