VE Day Celebrations in Cardiff

"My dearest friends, this is your honour" Sir Winston Churchill

VE Day is on Friday 8th May 2020. It will mark 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets and pubs to celebrate peace, mourn their loved ones and to hope for the future. The 75th anniversary will provide our nation with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life.

Friday 8th May 2020 has been designated a bank holiday. To commemorate this important time there will be various VE Day Street Parties and Celebrations in Cardiff.

The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War 2

Join us in Thomas Restaurant at 3pm on Friday 8th May 2020 and take part in The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War 2. Pubs, bars and restaurants from all over the UK will be raising a glass to all who took part in the war.

Just before the toast, at the top of the four highest peaks in the UK, The Last Post will be played at 2.55pm. A feat never undertaken before. It will also be played at the six most widespread locations; Lands End, Lowestoft, St David's, Unst, Enniskillen Castle and the Tan Hill Inn. This will be shown on the TV screen in Thomas Restaurant.

Cardiff 5k Race for Victory

The annual Cardiff 5K takes place in Whitchurch Village, a leafy suburb of Cardiff, on the evening of Saturday 9th May 2020, at 7pm. Participants will be able to race, run, jog or walk the closed road route. Each participant gets a t-shirt, which you can pick up on race day, with their name on it.

After the Race there will be plenty going on in the village for all the family to enjoy such as live music, street food stalls, and much more, until 11pm.
