"My dearest friends, this is your honour" Sir Winston Churchill
VE Day is on Friday 8th May 2020. It will mark 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets and pubs to celebrate peace, mourn their loved ones and to hope for the future. The 75th anniversary will provide our nation with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life.
Friday 8th May 2020 has been designated a bank holiday. To commemorate this important time there will be various VE Day Street Parties and Celebrations in Bristol.
Join us in Chophouse Restaurant at 3pm on Friday 8th May 2020 and take part in The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War 2. Enjoy a glass of fizz or orange juice on us as pubs, bars and restaurants from all over the UK will be raising a glass to all who took part in the war.
Just before the toast, at the top of the four highest peaks in the UK, The Last Post will be played at 2.55pm. A feat never undertaken before. It will also be played at the six most widespread locations; Lands End, Lowestoft, St David's, Unst, Enniskillen Castle and the Tan Hill Inn.
Head out for the day to Long Ashton Community Centre on Saturday 9th May 2020, between 11am-5pm.
The celebrations include a bake-off competition with a celebrity judge, children's rides, inflatables and activities, a Maypole dancing display, Morris Men, plus a 1940s afternoon tea with wartime era sandwiches!
Themed dress is highly encouraged!
