Things to do Before Choosing your Wedding Venue

While each and every wedding-related decision plays a part in crafting your big day, there are a few choices that make a bigger impact than others. There are a few things you need to do before choosing your wedding venue.

When planning a wedding, we suggest that you find a venue first. Did you know that most couples spend at least a third of their entire wedding budget on the venue? So you want to make sure that you absolutely love yours! You will likely find that once your wedding venue is booked, the other areas of your special day will naturally begin to fall into place.

Another reason why you should focus on booking your wedding venue first is that popular spaces are booked up far in advance, and if you’ve got your heart set on a particular date, it is even more important to get on to booking your venue, before another couple snaps it up.

If you don’t quite know where to start, here are the things to consider before choosing your wedding venue.

Work Out Your Budget

Although this can be a little tricky to work out, once your budget is set, your mind will be put at rest and you will have a clear focus. It is also a good idea to allocate budgets to each aspect of the wedding, or at least where you’re happy to spend a little extra and where you would like to hold back.

Set the Date

The next step is to decide on a date you would like to marry, that way you can get in touch with your shortlisted venues to check their availability. If you really can’t choose between them, then your wedding date can often act as a good elimination process.

If you have a special date in mind, this part will be simple. If not, then you should start by choosing your favourite time of the year, your employment, the weather and any other commitments you have. Also consider local big special or sporting events, you do not want your guests to have other commitments, or be at the bar watching TV, instead of celebrating your big day. We recommend that you have a couple of dates in mind to avoid disappointment.

Start Listing Your Guests

The final numbers do not need to be in place, but it is a good idea to have a rough idea as this is a crucial piece of information for your venue and suppliers. It will likely affect every decision you make. It’s natural to feel the need to invite everyone and their Aunt, but you need to remember that the bigger the guest list, the more you restrict your venue options and squeeze your budget.

Think Style

Do you have a style in mind? Perhaps you like, traditional, modern, vintage, rustic or something a little more unique. By choosing your wedding style you will be able to choose a wedding venue that reflects this, the style will come to life when you have the final details sorted, such as the photography, entertainment, cake flowers and stationery. They will transform your venue just for your special day.
