Cardiff Bay

Cardiff Bay

Cardiff Bay once called Cardiff Docks was the world's largest coal exporting port

Today it is also Europe's largest waterfront development. It has leisure activities available both on and off the water and has also been turned into a vast freshwater lake with the introduction of a barrage.

Visitors can ride boat tours operating from Mermaid Quay, which allow you to gain an understanding of the history and fauna of this exciting area.

Thers also a water taxi service which operates throughout the year from the Bay to the city centre and Penarth. This is a "must try"!

Cardiff Bay is home to a number of attractionsas seen on our Cardiff Attractions page.

The construction of the barrage is one of the largest engineering projects in Europe. Completed in 1999, it has created a 500 acre freshwater lake with 8 miles of waterfront and it is hoped it will stimulate the future development of the Bay as a tourist and leisure destination.

Cardiff has been named as one of the top 10 cities in Europe. Over 319,700 friendly people live here and call it home. With over 150 pubs, bars and nightclubs (many on the waterfront), 73 restaurants Cardiff has much for you to see and do! Cardiff Bay Future Inns Hotel
